Dear SRCE Families:
SRCE staff is looking forward to welcoming children and students back to school and continue to work diligently on implementing Nova Scotia’s Back to School Plan. Our preparations for a successful start to the 2020-2021 school year have been going well.
I would like to thank Strait Regional Centre for Education staff for their incredible efforts in helping us ensure we had the required resources and people in place to support our return to school. There has been a tremendous amount of work done behind the scenes to prepare for school re-opening.
Although this school year will look and feel different, I know we will come together as we did in the Spring to continue to support one another and adapt to our changing circumstances with kindness, compassion and understanding. I continue to be impressed and inspired by everyone’s ability to adapt as we navigate together through the COVID-19 pandemic. As always, if families require additional support, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school administration who will be able to connect you with the appropriate help.
Our focus will continue to be on working together to support our students’ well-being, achievement and overall success. As we transition to the new school year, our staff will focus on renewing relationships and building community in respectful, safe and inclusive learning environments.
In addition, we will focus on the Back to School Plan which puts the safety of children, students, families and staff first and foremost. One of the many strengths of the Plan is that it is responsive, and our practices can be modified quickly if required. The direction to move to a different learning model will be given by Public Health as they assess the COVID-19 situation locally.
It is through our collective response to following and respecting the public health measures that will help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect our communities. These measures include but are not limited to:
- Practicing good handwashing and other hygiene steps;
- Wearing a non-medical mask;
- Practicing cough and sneeze etiquette;
- Maintaining physical distance when and where required;
- Enhancing cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces; and
- Staying home if you feel unwell.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation as we continue to support one another, work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help each other stay as healthy and safe as possible.
The SRCE will continue to share updates via region-wide email alerts, posting to the SRCE website (srce.ca) and on twitter @SRCE_NS.
I wish everyone a safe and successful school year. We all will get through this together!
Regional Executive Director of Education
