RED Message to SRCE Families: Supporting Students Who are Absent and Updated Limiting the Spread of COVID-19 in Schools Guidance Document

January 31, 2022

Good Afternoon SRCE Families:

Thank you for everything you have been doing to support the return to in-person learning on January 17, 2022.  I know the transition to at-home learning and back to in-person learning was not an easy task for families and takes extra effort and planning.

As we returned to in-person learning, we have also been following enhanced public health measures in all schools as outlined in the revised Back to School: Living with COVID-19 guidance available at https://backtoschool.ednet.ns.ca/returning-to-classI want to commend students for their impressive efforts and cooperation.  It is certainly wonderful to see them back in schools and on playgrounds with their friends.  What we have done in the past has worked to keep children in school and I am confident the public health measures will continue to work.  School is the best place for the continued development of students’ emotional, social, physical and intellectual well-being.

Supporting Students Who Are Absent

We know that some students need to stay home, either for illness or other reasons. If a student has been absent, they will have access to the work being done in-class. Teachers will provide missed classroom and work assignments. If teachers are using digital (e.g. Google Classroom) or print materials in-class, those materials will be made available to students who were absent. Teachers are not expected to provide in-person and online learning at the same time. For more information, please contact your child’s teacher and/or principal.

Limiting the Spread of COVID-19 in Schools

For your reference, the school guidance related to COVID-19 cases has been updated and may be accessed at Limiting the Spread of COVID-19 in Schools.

Once again, thank you for all that you do each and every day to support your children and school communities.
