Date: Tuesday, April 28 2015 Port Hastings, NS: — At an Awards Ceremony held this afternoon at Dalbrae Academy in Mabou, His Honour Brigadier-General The Honourable J.J. Grant, CMM, ONS, CD (Ret'd), Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotiapresented selected Grade 11 students with the Lieutenant Governor’s Education Medals. The Lieutenant Governor’s Education Medal is awarded, annually, to students who have demonstrated: - qualities of leadership and service in the school and community; and - commendable performance in the courses in which they are enrolled.

Date: Tuesday, December 16, 2014 Port Hastings, NS:—School Board Member Francine Boudreau has been appointed as chairperson of the Strait Regional School Board by the Governor in Council. The appointment takes effect immediately. At the Strait Regional School Board’s Annual Organizational Meeting held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, voting for the office of Chair resulted in two tied ballots.
Date: Monday, November 17, 2014 Port Hastings, NS:—Effective today, Monday, November 17, 2014, the Strait Regional School Board has implemented its Safe and Secure Welcome Plan at all entrances to schools with Grades Primary to Six (6) students by locking the front door during the school day only. This Plan is part of the School Board’s ongoing efforts to ensure that parents and guardians and other authorized visitors may access schools while keeping students and staff safe. Once doors are locked, everyone will be required to press the buzzer at the main entrance to the school.
Port Hastings, NS:—The RCMP received areport of shots being fired in the vicinity of Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy in Terre Noire at approximately 2:15 p.m. today, Thursday, October 23, 2014. As a result, the school implemented the hold-and-secure procedure as a precautionary measure in consultation with the RCMP who responded immediately to the school. There was no threat on school property. Students remained in the school until the RCMP directed the evacuation of students to school busses at approximately 5:00 p.m.
