School Board Candidate Information Session Scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, 2016

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Nova Scotia School Boards Association (NSSBA) are hosting school board candidate information sessions throughout the Province.  These sessions will provide insight into the roles and responsibilities of a school board member, along with the nomination process.

The School Board Candidate Information Session in the Strait Region will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Boardroom at Regional Office, 16 Cemetery Road, Port Hastings.

Students Receive Lieutenant Governor Education Medals

Port Hastings, NS: — At an Awards Ceremony held this morning at Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School in Antigonish, His Honour Brigadier-General The Honourable J.J. Grant, CMM, ONS, CD (Ret'd), Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia presented selected Grade 11 students with the Lieutenant Governor’s Education Medals.

Strait Regional School Board Students Win Bronze Medals at Canada-Wide Science Fair 2016

Congratulations to our four students, Lyza Ells, Grade 8, St. Andrew Junior School; Brenton Sutherland, Grade 12, Dalbrae Academy; Brenna Martell and Alexandra Fraser, Grade 12, Richmond Education Centre/Academy, who represented the Strait Regional School Board extremely well at the Canada Wide Science Fair held at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec this week, May 18 to 20, 2016.

H.M. MacDonald Elementary School Celebrates National Police Week

As part of the school’s celebration of National Police Week, May 15 to 21, 2016, Grades Primary to 6 students attending H.M. MacDonald Elementary School in Maryvale enjoyed the outdoors on Thursday, May 19, 2016, while learning about the role, and many services, of the RCMP.

H.M. MacDonald Elementary School Principal Jason Dayman explained that students were able to speak with members of the RCMP and see first-hand some of the many services they provide including:

Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board: Notice of Public Hearing Regarding the Confirmation of Board Electoral Districts for SRSB

The Strait Regional School Board has made application to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board under The Education Act to confirm the number of school board members and electoral districts and to amend the boundaries of the electoral districts.  The hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 3:00 p.m.  For more information, please access the following link:

SRSB Celebrates Speech and Hearing Month

May is Speech and Hearing Month.  Each year, Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) dedicates the month of May to raising public awareness about communication disorders and the professionals who can help.  Speech-Language Pathologists are highly-trained professionals who are focused on the prevention, identification and management of communication disorders.  Many of us take our ability to communicate for granted.  Yet the ability to speak, hear and be heard is much more vital to our everyday lives than most of us realize.
