Students in the Strait Regional School Board Participate in Nova Scotia Skills Competition: Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy Students Bring Home a Gold, Silver and Bronze Award

During the month of April, 18 students from Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy, Dalbrae Academy, Dr. J.H. Gillis Regional High School and Chedabucto Education Centre/Guysborough Academy competed in the Nova Scotia Skills Competition at the Strait, Akerley and Waterfront campuses of the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC).  The students competed in the categories of Baking, Job Search, Carpentry, Photography, TV / Video Production, Welding and Workplace Safety.

Congratulations to all students and award recipients who took part in the 18th annual Strait Regional Science Fair held from April 5 to 7, 2016.  Special congratulations to the following grand prize award winners:

1st Overall:  Brenton Sutherland, Grade 12, Dalbrae Academy; Project Safe Skies

2nd Overall:  Brenna Martell and Alexandra Fraser, Grade 12, Richmond Education Centre/Academy; ProjectPour Some Sugar on Me

Strait Regional Science Fair 2016: Celebrating and Showcasing Student Creativity and Innovation

It's that time of year again for young scientists in the Strait Region. The Strait Regional Science Fair 2016 will be celebrated from April 5 to 7, 2016, at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.  On Tuesday, April 5, 2016, the public is invited to view the grades 3-6 projects from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the grades 7 to 12 projects from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Both viewings will be held at the Civic Centre.  The Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016, 7:00 p.m. at the SAERC Auditorium.

March is Nutrition Month

To learn well, our children and youth need to eat well.  Nutrition plays a key role in the healthy development of our children and youth. Nutritious foods provide us with the energy needed to grow, feel well, be active, stay healthy and learn.  March is Nutrition Month!  This year's theme is "Take a 100 Meal Journey: Make Small Changes One Meal at a Time". 

Update on the School Options Committee for the SAERC Feeder System

Port Hastings, NS: The Strait Regional School Board has been informed by Bob MacEachern, School Review Facilitator for the School Options Committee (SOC) for the SAERC Feeder System, that there will be no recommendation included in the Committee’s Final Report.  As a result, the SOC’s Final Report will not be presented, as anticipated, at the March 2, 2016, Regular Meeting of the Strait Regional School Board.

Strategic Planning Consultation Survey 2016-2019

On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, the Strait Regional School Board launched its Strategic Planning Consultation Process.  In an effort to ensure input is received from members of our school communities, a number of consultation sessions are planned.

School counsellors are valued members of our school teams in supporting student success. The role of school counsellors is to foster student growth with respect to their personal, social, educational, career development, mental health and well-being.  The Strait Regional School Board thanks all school counsellors for their exceptional efforts in helping students achieve success in school, in their daily lives and in preparing for their future.
